We primarily utilize Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT), but your sessions will also have techniques from Myofascial Release Therapy (MFR) and Craniosacral Therapy (CST) included as well.
Craniosacral Fascial Therapy or CFT is a therapy working with the fascial and the craniosacral system as well as the dental structures. By gently relieving strain within the craniosacral fascial system the body can achieve optimal mobility, experience relief from pain and the brain and nervous system can thrive.
Myofascial Release Therapy or MFR is a therapy working with the fascial system. After assessing for strain within the fascial system, gentle sustained pressure and light movement is used to release the fascia allowing for improvement in motion and relief from pain.
Craniosacral Therapy or CST is a therapy working with the craniosacral system. Light touch is used to relieve restrictions within to craniosacral system surrounding the central nervous system allowing for it and other bodily systems to function optimally promoting health and well-being.
CFT can help pregnant women by releasing tension in the craniosacral fascial system. This can help bring nervous system regulation and relief from sciatic pain, headaches, anxiety and more. Another important benefit is helping the body and pelvis loosen to create an optimal environment for your baby to grow and to support the birthing process.
CFT can help babies by relieving fascial strain. While babies are in utero they can develop a lot of tension. That tension is then compounded when they are born from any birth trauma they may experience from birth interventions used, the umbilical cord being wrapped around their neck or body, long labor and more. Issues such as colic, reflux, digestive issues, oral ties, and more can be related to these initial fascial strains. Relieving fascial tension can help a baby to flourish.
CFT can help adults by relieving fascial strain in their bodies. Restrictions in the fascia can be formed from any physical or emotional trauma throughout life. This starts with any fascial strain developed in utero and from the birthing process. Throughout life that is then compounded with traumas from any accidents, injuries, surgeries, concussions, emotional stressors and more. These strains in the craniosacral fascial system cause it to function sub optimally and can be related to ailments such as chronic pain, migraines, TMJ dysfunction, anxiety, and more. Unwinding them layer by layer can help the nervous system to regulate and the body to heal and thrive.
CFT can help children by releasing fascial tension in their bodies. Just like babies, older children have the same fascial strains at play from in utero and birth. They also have additional strains from any falls and accidents they experience as they grow. These strains can be related to conditions such as ear infections, asthma, ADD/ADHD, scoliosis, anxiety and more. Relieving the restrictions within their fascial system can help their nervous systems to regulate and their bodies to thrive.
No, unlike massage you remain fully clothed for all CFT sessions. Please dress in loose, comfortable clothing. We ask that you not wear jeans or any tight, restrictive clothes. You will be asked to remove your shoes so you may bring socks if that is more comfortable for you.
After a CFT session, you may feel relaxed, looser, less tense and at peace. It is possible that some minor aches and pains may pop up for a day or two while your body recalibrates similar to how you would feel after a workout. Please take the time to rest and focus on hydration in the 48 hours after your session.
Sessions are 60 minutes in length.
Everyone reacts to CFT differently, so how many sessions will be needed is not something that is able to be definitively predicted in advance. We recommend that everyone start with minimum of 5 sessions, ideally one, if not two, weeks apart from each other. After that time, we can more accurately reassess and make a plan for what will best help you going forward.
